Identity Management

In order to maintain coherent records of data about a person the Campus Labs platform must have a unique identification for each user of the system. In an effort to make it as easy as possible for campuses to tie data collected about a user via the platform to other data collected about the user on campus via other systems, we require that each member campus setup an authentication connection that passes over a unique identifier that is known by the campus.

To obtain this unique identifier for each user the platform relies on the identity management system at each campus to deliver the unique identifier of a user when they attempt to login to protected pages, via authentication.

Sometimes referred to as Single Sign On (SSO), authentication makes it easy for users to login to the platform without the need to create a separate username/password combination and creates an easy link between data collected by Campus Labs and data collected by other campus systems.
